...Delia's little scandal!
I saw my 78-year-old friend Delia recently, and the very first thing I noticed was her fingernails: she was sporting a flashy, sparkly new manicure.
"I love it!" I told her, pointing at her hands. She smiled and blushed.
English is Delia's second language (she's originally from Guatemala), and sometimes she takes a quiet second to search for the exact word she wants.
"It is...how you say..." she began, pausing to look down at her nails, "SCANDALOUS!"
Never in a million years is that what I thought would come out of her mouth—SCANDALOUS—but it did, and we cracked up and hugged and then cracked up some more.
Isn't that the best feeling? When someone you adore surprises you completely?
