…a recap of his autumn visit to Michigan.

Hi there, and happy Monday!

Firstly, I hope your weekend was what you needed it to be!

I spent mine in my hometown, visiting family and friends. While there I went on a hike, walked on the beach in the rain, played pickleball, hosted nephew sleepovers, and met my newest niece, who is snuggly and smells baby-perfect.

It was peak fall while I was back in the Midwest—brilliant colors, crisp air, squirrels everywhere, gathering acorns for winter...my little brother even took his three kids to a nearby pumpkin patch. I took a nap instead.

One thing I love about my hometown is there are wild animals everywhere. I can look out my dad's windows anytime of day and see birds, squirrels, chipmunks, and even deer. One morning there was a whole flock of wild turkeys hanging out in my dad's front yard.

The view from my dad's front porch one morning. Not pictured: a single crow challenging the turkeys for scraps on the ground.

I also learned a new card game, courtesy of my niece and nephew. It's called Trash and I'm OBSESSED. The gist: be the first to fill your 10-card face-down grid (Ace through 10) by drawing cards and placing matching numbers in their proper slots. Jacks are wild and Queens and Kings are trash. It's 100% luck, but so loud and so fun. Do you know it?

Oh, and the best thing I ate? My sister's cottage cheese bagels! They sound strange (or they did to me, at first), but they're absolutely delightful—fluffy, flavorful, and filling!

As my favorite blogger Joanna Goddard would note, there were also less happy parts about the long weekend: squabbling siblings, exhausted parents, laundry, and miscommunications.

Good luck this week!

P.S. I just found out that a group of turkeys is called a rafter...
