...a Halloween weekend recap and a wistful quote about youth.

Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was whatever you needed it to be.

Mine was a bit restful, a bit social, and a bit lucky—I found a great lamp on the sidewalk while taking Ellie out yesterday! It's blown glass in the shape of a flower and perfect for the corner table in my dining room.

I LOVE a street find, don't you? My partner? Not so much. When I walked in the door, he took one look at the lamp and said, "Are you sure?" Haha!

As promised, I also ran 10 miles in Golden Gate Park with my friend Terence on Friday and went to my friend Trevor's birthday party in Potrero Hill on Saturday before heading out into the chaos of Halloween night in the Castro. What a scene! I didn't take any pictures—there was so much to look at that my phone stayed buried in the pouch of my giraffe costume all night.

Yesterday, John-Andrew played his last show in San Francisco and stopped over afterward to do laundry before the production heads to Seattle today. (The glamorous life of an actor!) We ate delivery burritos, watched Elsbeth, and played tug-of-war on the living room rug with Ellie.

Later, I finished Andrew Sean Greer's new novel, Villa Coco. Among its many wonderful passages, this is one of my favorites:

It is hard to peer through the midnight ocean of time to see myself glimmering down there, so small and young and unformed, and understand I am somehow still that same person who came to those choices, the choices that have made me who I am. What were my thoughts at that moment? What were my fears?

It's pretty wild that our younger selves get to make so many of the decisions that set the course for our lives, isn't it? Yikes. Who left that guy in charge? :)

Have a great start to your week!
